What can parents expect and when
(varies with age and pre-treatment diagnosis):
Below are some of the most common advancements seen
so far:
- Improvement in day-to-day activity
of the child.
- The main improvements noted are:
- Language: Develop monosyllabic language
skills.
- Personal Social: Interest in social
surroundings. Improved attention span. Response
to verbal commands.
- Improved self-help skills: Bathing,
Eating etc.
- Improved performance in school
- Mixing with peers and doing
group activities.
Known side-effects and specific
Instructions on use:
The fact that it improves the cerebral
perfusion, the herbal supplement is not recommended
for children suffering from convulsive disorders.
No other adverse effect has been noted so far over
a period of 17 years in about 600 patients.
- Herbal Supplement is not advisable
for children less then 1½ years of age
(or till the child starts getting some solid food).
Exception to this can be made on review of the
medical history on case by case basis.
- No brain stimulants either in form
of drug (e.g. Pseudoephedrine) or in form of eatables
should be administered for the duration of taking
the supplement e.g. tea, coffee, coca, chocolates,
beverages etc. Other restricted eatable are Jaggery
and mango products.
What
action to take based on various changes observed:
Parents should report changes to
modify the dosage. If the child is currently on
any other theraphy, that should be reported to evaluate
if the supplement will complement the ongoing therapy
and make learning much faster.
Scientific Validation:
This paper on DSCare was presented
in the V International Conference of Pediatrics
held at Jaipur in India in 1999 by Dr.
SK Gupta. This paper represents the part of
the work relating only to SPECT HMPAO study. This
work has shown promising results in cases of Mental
Retardation and Down Syndrome.
The ingredients also appear in the
list of approved herbs by FDA.
